Text Box: Dear Parents/Guardians, Well, the 2006-07 school year is winding down and I want to take this opportunity to thank you for welcoming me into the Lower South community. I have been impressed with the children, staff, and families and the dedication to teaching and learning. My expectations for the 2007-08 school year are high, but before that I would like to take time to thank the wonderful staff of teachers and support personnel who take great pride in making sure that our Caring Community thrives each and everyday! The entire Lower South staff dedicates every moment to the education of the most valuable asset in our building, your child! You can find many of the Lower South staff members arriving early in the morning or working well beyond the end of the school day in preparation for teaching your children. It takes so many people, such as the teachers, secretaries, instructional assistants, cafeteria and recess aides, as well as the custodial staff, to make this a very special place to learn and grow. The students are very lucky to be surrounded by such professionals who care greatly about children! We are so very fortunate to have an active and involved PTA under the wonderful leadership of our Executive Board including President, Kim Colando, and co-Vice Presidents, Danielle Kitchenmann and Liliana Wasyliw, as well as Margaret Bolton, Kelly Merlino, and Theresa Albright. Our enthusiastic group of parents and volunteers raised funds to enhance the educational programs and provided the many exciting social events for our families this past school year. It was wonderful seeing you at so many of our school functions, as well as your attendance at parent-teacher conferences, and the several PTA sponsored events. So, it is with sincere appreciation as we come to a close to this great school year that I thank you for helping to make our school so wonderful! On behalf of the entire Lower South staff, I would like to send best wishes to those students who are moving onto Neshaminy and Poquessing Middle Schools, or any other school they will be attending next year. For everyone else, I look forward to seeing all of you on the first day of school, Wednesday, September 5th, and the post cards for classroom assignments will be mailed home during the last week of August. Please know that we will be working on class lists right up to the first day of school as new students are registered and others may withdraw, therefore to be fair to all Lower South families, we will be unable to release class assignments prior to the mailing of post cards. Please enjoy the summer months, be sure your children review their basic math facts and they read everyday; school may be out but learning can still take place! See you in September! Walsh Principal COUNSELOR’S CORNER  PENNSYLVANIA CLASSROOM PLUS GRANTS FOR CHILDREN Classroom Plus applications are still being accepted by the State, but will not be processed until after the state budget is passed this summer. Classroom Plus is a tutoring program sponsored by the state. Eligibility for the program in the past has been based on the IOWA test results (under the 50th percentile) or the PSSA scores (at or below the proficient level). If you would like additional information about Classroom Plus, visit their website at www.classroomplus.k12.pa.us, or call Mrs. Gill at 215-322-9330. COGAT scores are not applicable for Classroom Plus. PSSA scores will not be available until mid September. Have a great summer! Enjoy some time off, but be sure to keep learning!
